When travelling locally or abroad it is wise to remember that germs are everywhere, especially in trains planes and on the bus. So take precautions and wash often when travelling on any public transport.



Read up on the history and culture so you travel with at least basic knowledge of the country you are visiting. Stay informed with the local news (and intenational in some cases) so you dont find yourself in the middle of a viral outbreak or political unrest.

Bottled water is sometimes essential when travelling abroad. It is good to avoid drinking local water or uncooked foods prepared with it when visiting tropical countries.
If you are in a hotel room with a mini fridge you may be better off to make your own ice from bottled water rather then ice made from local water.
Always keep your passport with you at all times or if you can, have it locked in the hotel safe.
Never rely on just travellers cheques, it is best to carry a small amount of local currency (in small denominations only) as well.
