Modern Housing Technology17th century construction in the year 2006 ? Ever wonder why we build houses the way we do ? Ever notice the average price of a house in North America ? The whole industry is built around construction concepts that date back centuries. The construction industry has evolved to the point that housing is becoming less affordable due to the high cost of construction, materials and building professionals. Obviously supply and demand raises prices as well but with a new kind of construction, more affordable housing could be created paving the way for a brighter future for the future generations, that with the exception of those that opt for rural areas, will find themselves paying for their home for decades. Do we have to build houses with 2x6 joists and 2x4 studs forever ? Drywall, fibreglass insulation or Particle board ? $60 an hour electricians , plumbers and carpenters ? After all these years is there no better way to build a house ? Steel prefab buildings, plastic pyramids or concrete molded houses will eventually find there way onto the market as it is only a matter of time before someone exploits this huge demand for affordable housing which is affecting the quality of life for hundreds of millions of people. I think that molded concrete similar to condos but actually poured into a framed mold has the most potential. Plumbing and electrical would need to be run in channels down the wall and insulating could be done with foam. There is no need for wood framing or drywall, just spray the innerwalls with insulating paint, throw down a rug. |
