| Horror Movies Over the years many film companies have successfully marketed many a cheap horror film production. The most common formula has been to mix scenes of gore with scantily clad women, running and screaming, generally just freaking out while some guy chases them around. They sell it and we buy it up, often duped by a great cover or awesome TV preview that contains the only good 30 seconds of the film.
I think many people, after watching a few of these types of films do experience feelings of dread and horror. But that is after the movie when they realized they could have rented something else with their 5 bucks.

Hide and Seek
This movie is a little under rated. There are quite a few bad reviews out there about Hide And Seek but if you are looking for a nice little chiller you will find many that don't compare to it. Not just for fans of Robert DeNiro, this movie is genuinely creepy.
Van Helsing
The absolute best monster fest ! Van Helsing set a new standard delivering state of the art special effects and genuinely creepy Gothic scenery.
Stir Of Echoes
Decent plot, excellent acting and great special effects. There is a cool stop motion technique that just started to get used around the time of the making of this film. This technique is a good example of the evolution of the art. Similar effects can be seen in the Grudge and Sixth Sense.
Sin City
Not really in this genre but it gets pretty gruesome for a crime drama. Great stars in this one, Mickey Rourke , Benicio Del Toro, Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson, Powers Booth, Jessica Alba, Rutger Hauer, Bruce Willis, Eliah Wood, Nick Stahl. The casting was genius. 16 wins and 29 nominations. If you havn't seen Sin City yet, rent it.
